Warnings and precautions
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before you start taking Neurontin
If you have kidney problems, your doctor may prescribe a different dosage regimen
if you are on hemodialysis (to remove waste products due to kidney failure), tell your doctor if you start to feel pain in your muscles and / or weakness
If you develop symptoms such as persistent stomach pain, vomiting and nausea, notify your doctor immediately as they may be symptoms of acute pancreatitis (inflamed pancreas).
If you have a nervous system disorder or a respiratory disorder or if you are over 65, your doctor may prescribe a different dose.
Cases of abuse and dependence of gabapentin have been reported from post-marketing experience. Talk to your doctor if you have a history of abuse or dependency.

Use of Neurontin with other medications

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are using, have recently used or might have to use any other medication. In particular, tell your doctor (or pharmacist) if you are taking or have recently taken any medication for seizures, sleep disorders, depression, anxiety or any other neurological or psychiatric problem.

Medications that contain opioids such as morphine

If you are taking any medicine that contains opioids (such as morphine), tell your doctor or pharmacist that opioids may increase the effect of Neurontin. In addition, the combination of Neurontin with opioids may cause symptoms such as drowsiness and / or decreased respiration.

 Antacids for indigestion

If you take Neurontin at the same time as antacids that contain aluminum and magnesium, you can reduce the absorption in the stomach of Neurontin. It is therefore recommended that Neurontin be taken at least two hours after taking an antacid.

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.

You should not take Neurontin during pregnancy, unless your doctor has told you to. An effective method of contraception should be used in women of childbearing age.

Gabapentin, the active substance in Neurontin, passes into breast milk. It is not recommended to breast-feed while taking Neurontin, since the effect on the baby is unknown.
